About Holly

“My life and work have been informed by my experiences growing up playing sports in Minnesota. In my paintings and cutouts, I think of the women depicted as distant cousins to Degas’ ballerinas, in various states of preparation and play to exhaustion and relief. In my work, I reframe the athlete and interrogate the viewer as a Peeping Tom. In my portraits, dribble prints and more recently, my still life drawings, I employ a variety of subjects, perspectives and media to confront how we face, avoid or devise our interaction with others. I hope my works open discussion about relationships, and the growing cultural phenomenon of supplementing and replacing real interactions with social performance.
